Construction:
Construction has commenced. Updates will
appear
as soon as they are available.
Cutting the Tubes:
The tubes were marked using an aluminum yard stick
and then measured to their appropriate lengths.
Two hose clamps were then put together and taped in
place before being tightened. Then a x-acto knife
was used to cut along the hose clamp. After the
tubes were cut, the outer layer of cardboard, which had
a waxy coating, was peeled off, revealing the rough
cardboard below.
Below
are some pictures of the tube marking and cutting process:
Airframe Reinforcement
and preparation:
After the tubes were cut to length and the waxy outer
layer was removed, the tubes were reinforced with one
layer of Aerosleeves (10 oz. fiberglass). After
the epoxy became tacky (approximately 2 hours per tube),
the ends were cut smooth using a razor blade. Then, once
the tubes had fully cured, each end was sanded straight
and smooth. The fiberglass weave was filled using
watered down wood filler and sanded several times until
the airframe was smooth.
They are now quite strong and should withstand any
stress encountered during flight.
Pictures are forthcoming.

Centering Rings
and Bulkheads:
The centering rings and bulkheads were cut out of
3/4" 12-ply finish grade plywood using a RotoZip circle
cutter and were then sanded smooth using a drill press,
a bolt, a lock washer, two nuts, and a file. The
center holes were also cut using a RotoZip.
Pictures are forthcoming.
